ILCA-NA Executive Committee

Meeting Minutes

January 22, 2019


The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm EST.  In attendance were: Al Clark, John Long, Eric Reitinger, Andy Roy, and Sherri Campbell. Meka Taulbee was unable to attend.


1.The minutes from November 12, 2018 call were approved as distributed.


2. Office Report

  1. The Laser Sailor – The spring issue deadline is March 1st.
  2. Finances – Statements through December 31, 2018 were presented.  In a new agreement with ILCA – ILCA-NA - will pay full International dues on the first 200 members each year and 50% on any over 200. This will result in a good savings for ILCA-NA and should give us a breakeven year for 9/30/2019. The 9/30/2019 budget approved as presented.  The tax returns for YE 9/30/2018 have been finalized and will be submitted well in advance of the Feb 15 due date.
  3. Membership – numbers are up 50 since last time this year, but US Nationals were just last week, a bit earlier than normal.


3. Old Business

a.  ILCA finance assistance – covered above

b. Combining of  D12 & D17– office has communicated with the ILCA office to bring this to the World Council for approval.  Andy confirmed the approval to combine. Annoucement will be made.

c. World Sailing meeting update – Andy will send a link out.  Discussion with LaserPerformance on improving sales in NA. Discussion of statement recently released from LP. No updates on equipment evaluation trials for Olympic singlehanded equipment.


4. New Business

a.  Idea of a reduced membership fee/benefits option – Sherri. D22 secretary Kurt Hoehne and Andrew Nelson brought this idea forward. Andrew indicates that he has a  NW youth racing circuit and see this as a way to bring sailors into ILCA-NA. Discussion of reducing the membership fee for 1 year for new members.  In general the group felt that our membership fee of $45 or $50 is reasonable and in line with the membership fees of other one design classes. Sherri will go back to the D22 folks with a summary of our discussion.
