ILCA-NA Executive Committee

Meeting Minutes

October 10, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm EDT.  In attendance were: Al Clark, John Long, Andy Roy, Meka Taulbee, and Sherri Campbell. Eric Reitinger was unable to attend.

1.The minutes from September 17, 2018 call were approved as distributed.

2. Office Report

  1. The Laser Sailor –Fall TLS is out. The winter issue deadline is December 1st.
  2. Finances – 9/30/18 fiscal year ended with a large loss. Discussion followed with agreement to discontinue the subscription to the Sailing-News feed on the website and to decrease the reimbursement for Regatta Network fees to half of the fee rather than a full reimbursement
  3. Membership – all numbers now are for the 8/31/2019 membership year. A discussion regarding the important need to grow the membership to increase the revenues as we are running a very expense efficient organization already. There is a need to do all we can to attract young sailors transitioning from the Opti Class if possible. Andy mentioned that a new rig for light sailors may be out soon and would help with that idea.

3. Old Business

a.ILCA assistance – Andy has talked with Eric Faust and will have further conversation at the upcoming World Council meeting which will be on November 18.

b. Combining of  D12 & D17– office has communicated with the ILCA office to bring this to the World Council for approval.  Andy to confirm with email to Eric Faust to add to agenda.

c. ExCom Election – no new nominees so all current officers will go forward.

4. New Business

a.  World Sailing equipment announcement – Laser and Radial are still in the running but other boats have also been included in the sea trials. The WS council will vote and make a recommendation at the md-November meeting. The final decision would rest with the member sailing federations.

b. A submission to World Sailing from ILCA/Andy has been made for a four person (2 Standards and 2 Radials) relay slalom event. There seems to be some interest.

Meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm
